The Darkest Minds

The Darkest Minds - Alexandra Bracken Review to publish on Mission to Read.OMG! Words fail me. Beautiful, heart wrenching, poetic, inspiring, and so many other feels this book gave me. Seriously, I'm in pieces. This book is one of my favorites of the year, if not my very favorite of the year. From the very first page to the first last sentence I was completely hooked. In a world where children are dying by the masses and the rest are to be feared what hope is there? Throughout this book, I believe the hope was shown by the goodness in those willing to sacrifice everything in order to help those in need and those they love.Ruby is protective. She is Goliath slaying the giant, she is the mother lifting a car off her toddler, she is everything that is good and right about this world where there are such great injustices committed daily throughout the world. To say that I liked Ruby would not come close to my feelings for this remarkable girl. She is astounding as a character. She is flawed and yet she is the epitome of perfection in my eyes, the eyes of a reader.Liam is the type of guy I like to see as the hero. So often the Clancy's in this world get the recognition, but it's the Liam's that keep the world spinning. He is a great man even if he is only seventeen. This man is not a boy in any sense of the word. He is a responsible man who knows how to handle his obligations with nary a complaint.I felt so protective over Zu from the moment we met her. It took me awhile to warm to Chubs, because he is such a guarded character. Both of them were well rounded secondary characters that pulled on the heart strings. The plot was well balanced between action and character development, which made this book resonate with me on a deep level. This is a book that draws out explanations slowly and beautifully. One of the best timed books in my reading history. This isn't a book that I'm likely going to forget anytime soon.If you haven't read this book yet, I would recommend you do so immediately. The sequel comes out in a few weeks, so this is a great time to read it in time to have the next one soon after.

Shadow Heir (Dark Swan 4)

Shadow Heir (Dark Swan 4) - Richelle Mead This book got incredibly too tiresome for me and the ending pissed me off much too much.

Goodbye, Rebel Blue

Goodbye, Rebel Blue - Shelley Coriell I got this book out of the blue (haha, I'm punny). My husband brought the mail from the P.O. Box home with him today and within it was a package I wasn't expecting. Random mail has a way of being very odd or very good, so I'm usually wary with books I'm not expecting. This was one of those very good times.AJ, my husband, sat down to do computer work with baseball in the background, left to my own devices I started thumbing through Goodbye, Rebel Blue and was getting those "Are you demented?" looks within a couple of seconds. Rebel is hilarious and witty with tons of snark keeping people away from her. She is incredibly relatable of a character for me. She feels like she doesn't fit anywhere and that she is a massive screw up.Rebel broke my heart many times throughout this book, but in the end I loved her and this book. My only issue was at times this book was slow, but I finished the book within a couple hours. So even with it's slow parts it was a pretty quick read. The slowness of this book may be attributed to the fact that most of the book takes place within Rebel's head as she comes to grip with her past and finding a place she belongs in the present.

Rogue (Werecats, Book 2)

Rogue - Rachel Vincent Another great book in this series. I adore Faythe and I'm so happy that she has had great growth within this series already. She breaks my heart at times, because as most southern women she was taught women cannot be stereotypically feminine and be taken seriously. She avoids typically female pursuits in order to be taken seriously by her fellow enforcers.
Across the Universe - Beth Revis Great unique plot. Can't wait to see more characterization.

Shatter Me

Shatter Me - Tahereh Mafi The writing is beautiful, but I didn't really enjoy the plot line of this book. It's very much like a Dystopian X-men and it left me wanting more depth.

Storm Born

Storm Born - Richelle Mead Favorite Lines:"I mean how strange is that we bring plant sex organs to people we're attracted to? What's up with that? It's a weird sign of affection."“Eugenie, my sweet, your outraged protests are adorable, but they only continue to slow us down. If you want me to help you, then let me. If you don't, then take me to one of those places where human women wear revealing clothing and quickly lose their virtue through alcohol.”Opinion:I was wanting something Fae related and BookBFF Angela told me to get this one for like the millionth time. She had brought it up a few times, but I didn't really take it as "This book is amazing. Read it RIGHT EFFING NOW!" Sometimes you have to be blunt with me for me to get the point. My review is primarily going to be the many exclamations I made to my lovely chicas while reading it."What kind of name is Eugenie? It's a horrible stupid name.""OMG! Why did no one tell me how absolutely fantastic Dark Swan is? OMG! I'm in love so far! Eugenie (which is still a dumb name) is everything I in characters and she has outlooks on life that are exactly the same as mine. I'm in love! Swoon!""Sometimes the characters authors create tell you exactly who they are and I absolutely adore Eugenie. She's my kind of girl. Honesty is more important than manners, intelligence and education leads to logical reasoning out of moral issues and being alone is infinitely easier than all the games. I want to be besties with Richelle Mead!"I only had a couple of issues with this book. In both her that I have read (Gameboard of the Gods, Storm Born) adult series though she has them meet the love interest, have sex right away and then find out about him which is sorta annoying. Aspects of the story are predictable in ways it's Eugenie doesn't immediately put together. If you can't tell, I loved this book and everyone that hasn't read it should "GO PICK IT UP RIGHT EFFING NOW!" See blunt. :D

Fair Game (Alpha & Omega, #3)

Fair Game - Patricia Briggs Favorite Lines:"Not yet." Anna said affably. "My father says that government unchecked is like a snowball; you can always count on it getting bigger and gathering more power."“Never accept the blame for what evil people do. We are all responsible for our own actions.” Opinion:Alpha and Omega series is one of my favorite adult series and this one surely didn't disappoint. I fell in love with the characters even more than I already was. I love to see established relationships in books and Patricia Briggs does this in a way that most paranormal romance/Urban Fantasy can't compete with.Anna is a strong a courageous mate to Charles and doesn't ever back down when he's in trouble. This trait is hugely important in the storyline of Fair Game and Patricia shows she can definitely relate to this aspect of adulthood. Patricia is an old history major and this constantly lends to having little snippets of rich history thrown in to make the story even deeper and well rounded. I wish she'd write a book purely about the fae so badly, because she creates their world with rich descriptions and full of life that I'd love to see more of.Charles is such a good mate. He loves Anna with a deep and unyielding passion, which makes for some incredibly good scenes between the two. They know the boring bliss of contented withtheir relationships and he is willing to put everything aside to focus on Anna. Their relationship is one of the best constructed relationships. The action is always fantastic in Patricia Briggs stories. It's a steady quick plot, with plenty of time to focus on character development. The action at the ending of this story leftme salivating for more.

Twice Tempted (Night Prince Series #2)

Twice Tempted - Jeaniene Frost For more reviews check out Mission to Read Favorite Line:“Fourteen hundred and thirty-one."I blinked. "What's that?""The year I was born, which is not, as you'll note, yesterday.” Opinion:I didn't know there was a new Night Prince book out until I made a video discussing my favorite series and included Night Prince as one but said there was only book out, when #bookbff Angela alerted me to a second book out I immediately went and purchased it!This book felt long, but not in a bad way. It could be that I was sneaking pages in during work (internship) and late at night when I should have been asleep. I couldn't stay away from it. I was addicted. When there was a conclusion to a storyline in the middle of the book I was satisfied and would have been happy with it ending there, but I was so incredibly happy that there was another half to finish and this second half had a ton of action!Leila is strong. She is not in any way shape or form a damsel in distress and is an equal sparring partner for Vlad. She doesn't have a witty sarcastic sense of humor I love in heroines, she's more self deprecating which is far from my own humor type, but I enjoy her one liners. But it's not her humor or her strength that makes me love her so much. It's her heart. She has such an expansive heart and she loves absolutely everyone. She is also very protective of her loved ones.Vlad has long been my favorite male in the Night Huntress world. He's sexy, hilarious, and doesn't fool himself about he is *usually*. He's had a violent past and embraces what he's had to do in order to survive in his tumultuous past. He doesn't deny it or stick his head in the sand about his past deeds, he accepts himself even if that means accepting that he hasn't been the best example of gentility. I wish there was a bigger emphasis on secondary characters in this book. They are around, but they don't really add anything to overall story. The plot moved fast throughout the entire book, but at a blazing pace for the second half of this book.Once again this author and series has lived up to it's reputation as one of the best in Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy. I can't wait to get my hands on more books within this world.
Stray - Rachel Vincent I asked my Book BFF's out of any book on the earth that I should read which book would they say. Angela said, Stray and she has been trying to get me to read this for a few weeks, so since I already had a copy I delved into it. I'm so glad I did! I loved it!You know how when you are reading a book you love you keep checking to see if you are almost out of the awesomeness. I kept checking the entire book wanting more and more, luckily this is a pretty large book at 600+ pages, but it's an incredibly quick read. I read the entire book within two days and likely would have finished the entire thing in one sitting had I not fallen asleep.I love books with character arcs where the characters actually grow from the events around them, and Faythe certainly grew a ton within this book. When we meet Faythe she is determined to have some independence from her family. She is so determined that not only does she risk her own life several times, she puts others at risk because she keeps taking the focus off the kidnapped girls and on to her escape attempts. Seriously I got a bit pissed at her. I was like grow up. The lives of the other girls is way more important than showing your father at this exact second that you are an independent woman. She wasn't acting like an independent woman and the people around her were treating her like the spoiled brat she was acting to be. She completely redeems herself by the end of the book.Boys. We have sexy sexy tomcats (male werecates) in this book. First we have who I imagine to look like Wade from Hart of Dixie complete with his care what may attitude, Jace. Faythe has always viewed him as a brother until she comes home from school and he's there tempting her. He's funny, light hearted, and at lot of the points throughout the book he is exactly what I think Faythe needs. Then there is super serious, Mexican stray, Marc. They have a ton of history and he's been waiting for her to come back home so they can start their lives together. He puts way too much pressure on Faythe to be everything he wants her to be from the very beginning and in his attempts to claim her she makes it clear that she wants no part of it, with scars to show just how serious she is.This is definitely going to be a series about settling old disputes with family and that is one of my favorite types of secondary storylines. Redemption for past faults, forgiveness for those that have crossed boundaries and all the heartfelt love of a large family.I can't wait to pick up the next book in this series!
Fifth Grave Past the Light - Darynda Jones OMG! Guys! I need more now. Right now. Not a year from now. Now. Right now. Every moment of reading the Charley Davidson series is a moment where I have uncontrollable grin on my face and laughter in my heart if not uproariously disturbing everyone around me. I hate that I have to wait for the next one. I want it NOW!Charley is just as funny, charming, and impossible as she has been in every previous book. The only issue I’ve had with previous books was the formulaic plot, but there is no formulaic plot in this one. It’s even lighter than the previous books, but at the same time the case she is on in this book is more heartbreaking than any of her other cases. I have never been more scared for her safety than I was in this book. I’m sorta super protective of Charley so I wanted to step into the book and kick some ass!Reyes. Oh dear. He is one hunky beautiful man and the sex in this book is even more steamy than has been in the past because they’ve started to form a deeper relationship outside the sex. But it’s still not deep enough. Basically the only time Reyes is around is when he is screwing Charley’s brains out and I need more substance from my sexy sexy boys to fall in love. I’m deep in lust with Reyes, but I would love to see more character development outside the bedroom. Even though they have the most sexual chemistry of any other couple I’ve read.Could Cookie and Uncle Bob get a move on in the dating department though? Seriously. I love these two side characters for them not to be ridiculously happy. Great secondary characters distinguish to me great books from good books and these are two of my favorite secondary characters in all of the series I’ve ever read. This book is just as good if not better than the previous books and I fall deeper into love with this series with every book I read.I never do audiobooks. I have the attention span of a gnat, so asking me to listen to anything that doesn’t have pictures to go along with it is just asking to be tuned out, but I decided to do immersion reading with this book (read the e-book while listening to the audiobook) and it made me pay even more attention to every word, every action which increased my enjoyment of this book.
First Grave on the Right - Darynda Jones OMG! One of the best books I have ever read! I started laughing within a couple pages of the book and didn't stop until the very last page. As soon as I started this book I started bugging my book buddies to start reading it so I could squee with them! None of them have read it and I desperately need someone to squee with! (Also it's only 3.79, so get it, read, and squee with me!)Charley Davidson is hilarious! She is tough, smart, and she is fearless. Her fearlessness constantly has everyone around her worried, but they shouldn't because that girl can take care of herself. She is the type of herione that even though she has all of these epic powers you can totally see yourself sitting around the breakfast table drinking coffee or laughing until the wee morning hours with. She is a fully fleshed out character and one that I would want to be friends with.I usually skip "steamy" scenes in books, but Reyes and Charley are simply too hot to just skip over! Also be aware that if you skip the steamy scenes it's very likely you'll miss something incredibly important to the storyline.Reyes is smart, mysterious, at times scary, and one of the sexiest heroes ever! I mean seriously sexy! We find out a lot about him as the story progresses, but more from the perceptiosn of others and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Reyes from dialouge with Charley. There is little dialouge between the characters because as soon as he enters the room they can't keep their hands off one another.Charley's family is sorta a mess, but I have a feeling that will fix itself as the series progresses. Her father is an ex-cop and her uncle is a detective and they both have used her powers to solve cases. This means Charley is surrounded by close-minded cops that she consistently has a hilarious one liner for. Charley certainly has a mouth on her!The plot can get kinda convulted at times and can feel like too many strings we are supposed to keep track of, but if you give your undivided attention to this book it shouldn't be an issue and it is certainly easy to get lost in a world of Charley. I would suggest starting this book when you have a few free hours to get lost in this riveting book!If you love humor, sassy heriones, mysterious sexy protective bad boys, secondary characters that take on a life of their own and unusual takes on the paranormal then I'm pretty sure you will LOVE this book! Okay enough about my love of Charley! I have the next book to read! (You can also watch me squeeing about this book in the Book BFF Book Haul!)
Enamored: Book Two in the Enslaved Trilogy - Shoshanna Evers The first book in this series was mediocre and forgettable, but had a voice that made it enjoyable. The second felt like it had even lost that. It was a bit sexist with the idea that all females have the ability to submit to at least one man and only damage to the female by a male would cause her to be consistently dominant. That being said I liked the dynamic more between Marc and - due to her being able to hold her ground. She is independent and doesn't need him financially, but chooses him all the same. The author does make notes about safe play from condom use to making sure circulation has not been cut off by rope play which is a huge bonus. I'm happy that she makes an effort to be knowledgeable about safety.

Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega Series #1)

Cry Wolf - Patricia Briggs Charles has been referenced many times in the Mercy Thompson series, but I never really cared about his story. Mercy doesn't really seem to like him. Asil though interested me. When I found out Asil was prominent in the first book in the Alpha and Omega series I had to start it. I'm so incredibly glad I did.Anna is much more like me than Mercy is. This means while Mercy annoys me at times I relate with Anna deeply. Anna is strong in a resilient sort of way, but not in a in your face kick-ass sort of strong. She has a spirit strong enough to endure years of horrendous brutalization at the hand of her old Alpha without becoming a monster."Pain makes a dominant more violent while it does just the opposite to a submissive wolf." Anna is not included in the dominance hierarchy of the pack. She has all the protective urges with none of the violent ones. She heals the soul. Whether that be a 1300 year old werewolf or a two month old rogue werewolf. The relationship between Charles and Anna is touching, but they don't communicate. She has issues that need to be expressed and questions that need to be answered, but they refuse to use their words. They simply shut down and the meanings of nonverbal communication (a look of fear, moving away from an angry werewolf) are misunderstood without the communication that needs to happen between them. They are instantly mated, but there is no getting to know one another that needs to happen in order to have a deep lasting relationship. This makes it seem almost like instalove. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the sequent books. The villain within this book is heartbreaking. Love, rejection, neediness all culminates in a powerful villain that is worthy of the power of Bran's pack. I can't wait to see what will be the next obstacle they will have to overcome.
